Bloggers today face a serious problem. The audiences that they once commanded aren’t really paying attention. People don’t want to read long-winded posts any longer, and frankly, it’s hard to stay on top of the heap with writing. If you’re blogging and you are seeing a downturn in traffic, don’t panic. You could easily transition a bit, and add additional content without having to write anything else. You could stick to your writing schedule, and post great options, but build an additional podcasting element and attach it to your blog.

Your blog can have a great audience, but you can build an even bigger audience if you add a blog to it. Not sure what to say, or how to work with this? Don’t worry, the following will highlight a few things that you can do to help you gain the upper hand in regards to blogging today. This will help you streamline the process and get a bigger piece of internet traffic today.

Pick A Topic

The first thing that you are going to want to do is pick out topics. For starters, you could always introduce your blog and some of the more popular posts that you’ve put out in the past. Think of the most popular posts, and address the comments, questions and ideas that you have within them. This can get you started on how to engage your audience. Chances are, new people to your site and even podcast will not know about what you’ve talked about or your expertise. This is a chance to get people caught up to speed with what you’re doing, and what you are trying to promote overall.

Find Your Audience

The audience that reads your blog, may not be the audience that listens to your podcast at first. You may be battling between two audiences, but you want to connect a bridge to each side. That is where you will need to do a little bit of demographic investigation. Take your time figuring out who you want to market towards, and what their interests are. This will take a little time, but you can easily focus on this and work through a few elements that will help you understand what they want, what you can deliver, and how to communicate the message forward. If you don’t do any demographic research, and if you don’t focus on topics that people want to hear, you’ll lose on either end of the spectrum.

Quality Matters

Don’t just add a podcast because you want to get more interest in your blog. You should add this as an extension to what you’re already doing. One idea in this regards could be to have a blog post that ends without a conclusion. You can discuss the conclusion in your podcast. You could have a part one that is all writing, then conclude that with a part 2 that is discussed on the podcast. That way you are building content that is continued through both mediums. By doing this, you are going to be serving your audience in two very different formats, and will engage an audience that may only listen to one or another that only reads your writing. Balancing the two and connecting them may be tough at first, but finding ways to connect the two can help you get the best of both sides.

Start Slowly

"be the tortoise"Become the tortoise! At first, don’t jump into long winded discussions. Start with a simple podcast that reflects on ideas that you have for posts. Ask questions, discuss current industry events, and thoughts that you have on the topic that you’re working on for your blog. In some instances, when you’re absolutely out of ideas, read your blog out loud. This could be alike an eBook for those that don’t have time to read your writing, and would prefer to listen to it on the go. You may be surprised by how well this works, and how it could very well give you a new audience that would otherwise not go to your website. Over time, you will find new avenues to communicate the message you want, and build a network of individuals that you can market to on various levels.

At the end of the day, adding a podcast to your blog is not tough. However, you need to flesh it out a little before you can connect the two. Take your time in the preliminary planning stages, and in time, you’ll have something to offer your existing audience, and build an all new one.
